A plane crashed into the water at Renton Municipal Airport on Sunday with no injuries.

At around 2:30 p.m. June 1, a single-engine, privately owned aircraft reported mechanical issues during takeoff and made an emergency landing in the water at the north end of the airport. The Mercer Island Police Department Marine Patrol Unit responded to the reported crash and secured the area.

MIPD reported the pilot and passenger of the airplane were both uninjured and out of the plane when they arrived. The plane was stabilized and removed from the water later that day. MIPD said the Federal Aviation Administration was notified and is conducting a routine investigation into the cause of the crash.

Renton Police Public Information Officer Meeghan Black said Renton police also responded and aided in securing the scene and removing the plane.

“The plane skidded off the runway, and the tail was still on land when it came to a stop. There was a small fuel spill, and we notified the EPA,” Black said.
