Crews extinguish morning fire on Rainier Ave. in Renton

Renton Regional Fire Authority fire units responded to a fire Tuesday morning on Rainier Avenue South.

Many Renton residents noticed smoke as units were dispatched to a commercial structure fire at 9 a.m. June 24. The fire was located on the 600 block of Rainier Avenue S. and crews reported the fire was located on the “exterior corner of a small, single-story building,” according to Deputy Fire Marshal Ashlinn Phipps. Photos from eyewitnesses show the fire near the IHOP building at the location.

“The fire was considered tapped at 9:32 a.m., however, a few engines stayed behind to help with overhaul and cleanup,” Phipps said.

Phipps said crews were able to contain the fire and everyone was evacuated safely. She said the cause of the fire was “an unattended fire started on the exterior.”

The fire resulted in the temporary closure of Rainier Avenue S. northbound at SW 7th Street as the fire was being contained.
